A history...

In 1885, Emile Giffard, a then pharmacist in Angers, carried out research on the digestive and refreshing properties of mint.

From a particular variety of pepper mint, the “Mitcham” plant, he creates a pure, transparent, refreshing mint liqueur whose success is immediate.

Emile Giffard names his liqueur Menthe Pastille in reference to the taste of the mints that were very popular at the time and transforms his pharmacy into a distillery.

Since its invention, the Menthe Pastille has inspired artists for graphic creations steeped in history.

For 5 generations, the Giffard family has known how to convey the passion of the product, the taste of quality and the respect of the plant world in order to make the Menthe Pastille an iconic liqueur.

Made from an exceptional plant,
Mitcham mint

Since the beginning, it has been an essential ingredient in the production of our Menthe-Pastille.

Today this variety of mint grows in Anjou a few kilometers from the production site of Menthe-Pastille.
