Smooth and nutty, milky but not oily. The flavour of fresh (grated) coconut develops with lingering notes of coconut fruit and milk and a delicate toasted after-taste.
Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm, one of the most useful trees in the world, often referred to as the "tree of life". It provides food (in various forms), fuel, cosmetics, building materials, among many other uses. The name "coco" is thought to come from Old Portuguese meaning "head" or "skull", referring to the three indentations on the coconut shell that resemble facial features. The fruit is made up of 3 layers: the first 2 forming the pod and the third is the edible white flesh that forms once the coconut has reached maturity. The sweet and refreshing clear liquid it contains is called coconut water.
